Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin has announced that a Liberal Nationals Government will commit $2 million towards the redevelopment of the Mentone Lifesaving Club.
Mentone is one of the great Port Phillip Bay lifesaving clubs with a current membership of over 1,200 and an impressive record of achievement in water safety for children and adults.
This significant $2 million contribution will help the Kingston Council and Life Saving Victoria initiate a substantial redevelopment of the Club’s facilities as detailed in its Master Plan.
Kingston Council, Life Saving Victoria and the local community all acknowledge the outstanding role the club plays in drawing together their local community in addition to its primary role around beach safety.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin:
“Mentone Lifesaving Club has been neglected by Daniel Andrews and the Labor Government and as a massive community focal point; it deserves the best facilities to continue the excellent work done by its staff and local members.”
Comments attributable to Liberal candidate for Sandringham, Brad Rowswell:
“For 98 years, the Mentone Lifesaving Club has delivered life-saving emergency services for our community. Now – with more than 1,200 members – thousands of local residents, school students, community groups and visitors benefit from the programs and services that the Club provides.
“Today’s announcement gives certainty to the Mentone Lifesaving Club and will ensure the ongoing viability and success of the Club for generations to come. The new lifesaving facility and clubhouse will also allow the Club to expand their important community outreach and partnerships programs.”
Comments attributable to Liberal candidate for Mordialloc, Geoff Gledhill:
“For nearly 100 years the Mentone Life Saving Club has a long and proud history of service to this community. Beachgoers feel safe knowing that hundreds of volunteer lifesavers are here to keep them and their families safe.
“The club has a wonderful culture amongst its members, a culture that is inclusive and promotes respect and integrity, not just through words but also through actions. I am delighted to be part of a team led by Matthew Guy that truly appreciates and supports our vital volunteers.”
