If elected in November, a Liberal Nationals Government will invest $9 million to upgrade Sandringham College, the largest single infrastructure investment in the school for more than thirty years.
The funding will go toward the finalisation of the school’s masterplan and the development of Stage One of that plan. Priority will be given to removing asbestos riddled demountable classrooms and replacing them with new multi-purpose facilities, the refurbishment of the Holloway Road campus library and urgent upgrades to existing heritage-listed buildings.
In addition to this $9 million investment, a Liberal Nationals Government will work with Bayside City Council to leverage ongoing investment in the sporting fields at Sandringham College, Holloway Road Campus.
We will empower the Education Department to enter into a long-term lease or Memorandum of Understanding with Bayside City Council to ensure that Sandringham College students, local sporting clubs and residents can continue to benefit from the ongoing use of these fields.
This arrangement will be subject to upgrade and recurrent maintenance costs being borne by the Bayside City Council working together with Sandringham College, Sandringham Soccer Club and East Sandringham Cricket Club.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Education, Tim Smith:
“The facilities at Sandringham College are deteriorating at an alarming rate and only a Matthew Guy led Government will replace rundown buildings with modern facilities.
With Labor being in power for fifteen of the last nineteen years, it is clear to me that this school has been neglected for far too long. A Liberal Nationals Government is committed to supporting the students, staff and families of the Sandringham College community.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Sandringham, Brad Rowswell:
“The state of Sandringham College school buildings is unacceptable and the students, staff and school community deserve so much better.
Sandringham College enjoys a wonderful reputation for the educational experiences it provides every student. This $9 million investment demonstrates just how serious the Liberals are about driving the best possible educational outcomes in the best possible school accommodation for students in the Sandringham electorate.”
